Hillary Clinton spoke at the Black Girls Rock! award ceremony Friday night, and Black Twitter is skeptical of her motives.

The event was in Newark, New Jersey, and will air on BET Tuesday. According to the Associated Press, the event honored Rihanna and Shonda Rhimes.

"My life has been changed by strong black women leaders," the former secretary of state told the audience. "All of our kids, no matter what zip code they live in, deserve a good teacher and a good school, a safe community and clean water to drink."

But some Twitter users weren't buying her displays of solidarity with the black community:

Hillary Clinton appearing at Black Girls Rock seems so disingenuous to me

Hillary really went to Black Girls Rock... For the 1st time in the 6 year history... During the election year... How convenient

Hillary Clinton on Black Girls Rock seems about right. BET is part of Viacom after all.

This is, after all, the same candidate who said "we have to bring them to heel" in a speech about at-risk youth, calling them "super-predators." Clinton also snapped at a protester who called her out on those comments. Clinton was also previously accused of pandering to black and Hispanic voters.

Less controversially, honoree Rihanna spoke at the ceremony, the AP reported.

"Thank you so much for celebrating us in a world that doesn't celebrate us enough," she said. "The minute you learn to love yourself, you will not want to be anybody else," she added. "Role model is not the title they like to give me ... [but] I think I can inspire a lot of young women to be themselves and that is half the battle."
